NWG, a trading company active since 2014 that supplies 100% renewable energy, needed:
Dinova has created a solution on Google Cloud that has allowed us to:
Convinced that innovation is the foundation of the energy transition, in 2022 the company decided to implement more precise, technologically appropriate, secure, and business-friendly data management.
With more than 6 million bills issued, the company felt the need to update methodologies and infrastructures for data management. In particular, it needed to compare the value of the electricity in billing with the procurement cost and the consumption data coming from individual meters.
Before turning to Dinova, NWG Energia was using an on-premise Data Warehouse solution to support the reconciliation process between billed energy and procurement costs. It was therefore an unstructured system, unable to quickly handle large amounts of data.
Speed of execution, scalability, the need for simulations, and shorter response times are some of the needs that emerged from using traditional architecture. Furthermore, an on-premises data warehouse didn't allow the company to have a clear view of ROI to support decision-making, analysis, and planning processes.
In order to strengthen the role of data within the company through a Cloud-based Data Warehouse, NWG Energia turned to us to integrate Google Cloud technologies to speed up and automate the pre-existing process and enable new business scenarios.
The company now benefits from a serverless Cloud Data Warehouse capable of enhancing the role of data within the company. To implement it, the following Google services were used:
Now, even the data coming from the PODs - which report consumption in 15-minute intervals - are collected in the unified Data Lake and compared with previous accounting data. This step, in addition to enabling more accurate checks, makes it possible to issue more precise billing data, resulting in greater end-customer satisfaction.
The adopted solution allowed NWG Energia to drastically reduce the effort required by analysts to identify errors, typos, variations, fraud, and other data inconsistencies. Furthermore, thanks to an automated data collection and analysis process, the activity metrics have become part of the company’s assets, mitigating the risk of data dispersion or loss.
The beauty of innovation is that once it starts, it doesn’t stop. The new technologies available have taken the company beyond its primary goals to expand the field of analysis with new KPIs. The project developed together was the first step in a modernization process aimed at building a Data Lake and a Data Warehouse that bring together all company information.
The advantages obtained by NWG Energia are both operational and business-related. The former lie in the improvement of data flow management and analysis; the latter in a simple yet powerful data governance that allows the company to optimize time and gain a clear vision to make Data-Driven decisions.
In any process involving technologies, algorithms, and Machine Learning, it is essential to always keep in mind the human component of data. In fact, those who produce, collect, and analyze them every day are the very same people who make operational and business decisions based on them.
We never forget about people. That’s why we developed a methodology to make any modernization project concrete and sustainable: it starts with a preliminary assessment phase, followed by a roadmap that includes technology implementation through agile development and support via training for the people involved.
