1 Starting Point

1 Need

The Consorzio della Bonifica Renana is a public body whose goal is to ensure the proper drainage of rainwater through its network of artificial canals. It operates within the Reno River basin, in an area of over 3,400 km² that includes 63 municipalities, the Metropolitan Cities of Bologna and Florence, and the Provinces of Modena, Ferrara, Ravenna, Prato, and Pistoia. The organization had the following needs:

  • Plan and optimize maintenance interventions.
  • Trace systems and technical structures.
  • Monitor maintenance operations on the systems.
  • Carry out adjustments to operating machines.

2 Discovery

2 Direction

Dinova supported the company in the implementation of CARL Source, a CMMS solution, meeting the company’s specific needs and achieving the following results:

  • Customization of operational processes and interfaces.
  • Manage field interventions via the CARL Touch mobile app.
  • Integration with mapping systems for plant geolocation.
  • Implementation of conditional maintenance plans.
  • Optimization of warehouse and inventory management.

3 How

3 The challenge

After analyzing the requirements and the specific context, Dinova supported the Consortium in choosing CARL Source as the CMMS platform to be implemented. The project was launched with a gradual approach, involving the entire network of plants and technical facilities, warehouse management, and preventive and corrective maintenance activities. This method encouraged a better understanding of the system’s functionalities by the technical and IT managers and broad engagement of the operational staff in the field.

The platform’s functionalities made it possible to identify and configure tailor-made solutions, adapting processes, interfaces, and operational modules. Thanks to the CARL Touch mobile app, field operations were managed with greater efficiency, also integrating warehouse material management.

The platform was integrated with the Consortium’s cartographic systems to ensure data alignment and improve the representation and monitoring of the facilities. The adoption of these solutions has enhanced traceability and planning of interventions, providing more advanced management tools for the entire plant network.

The project also involved the Department of Management Engineering at the University of Bologna in redesigning the warehouse management processes, improving efficiency and adapting the solutions to the Consortium’s specific needs.

The operational business benefits obtained:

Grazie all’utilizzo del software CARL, si sono raggiunti importanti vantaggi quali:

  • Efficiency in the operational management of field interventions through the use of Carl Touch integrated into the CARL Sw platform
  • Implementation of automatically triggered conditional maintenance plans, ensuring the satisfaction and involvement of operational and organizational personnel.
  • Collection and re-setting of technical data of the assets and organization with a hierarchical tree structure of all the systems.
  • Development to the desired (and further implementable) levels of traceability and planning of corrective, extraordinary and ordinary maintenance interventions
  • Geolocation of faults on pipelines and delivery units of irrigation systems (integrated with the mapping systems used in Bonifica Renana)
  • Management of warehouse stocks and logging of item replacements on plant locations

4 Why

4 Why Dinova?
